Import Customs Administrator
We have a great opportunity for an Import Customs Administrator to join a large growing logistics company based in Witham.
The main responsibility for the Import Customs Administrator is to support the Customs team and report to the customs manager.
Our client is looking for someone who has previous experience working in an import customs role, so therefore is fully conversant with CDS, NCTS, GVMS, IPAFFS and other regulatory platforms.
Main Duties:
- Signing/completion of customs documents under a Power of Attorney on behalf of clients.
- Recognise client commercial invoice(s) and packing list(s) extracting data as necessary to complete import declarations.
- Liaising with importers (possibly exporters) and internal operational colleagues to obtain mandatory information for import entries.
- Entering details onto specialised Customs software including Destin8, Sequoia, Descartes etc allowing goods to enter the UK and deliver to consignees.
- Be fully conversant with CDS, NCTS, GVMS, IPAFFS and other regulatory platforms.
- Allocating the correct licences depending on type of goods being imported.
- Calculation and processing of taxes and duties to be paid by buyers of goods.
- Application of duty refunds and tariff reclassification as appropriate and will assist with any appeals that may arise.
- Be fully conversant with import Customs regulations, whilst keeping up to date with changes as they occur.
- Inform customers on import and export restrictions, tariff systems, insurance requirements and all other Customs related matters.
- Have a clear understanding and the ability to process the necessary import documentation, T-documents, EUR1’s, Certificates of Origin (CofO), PAOA, HRFNAO and other cargo control documents, including the discharge of T-documents and REX Statements.
- Liaise with Port Health, Border Force of HMRC officials in areas such as document checks, goods quarantine etc.
- Arrange the release of goods from Customs approved sites (ETSF locations) and/or port of arrival with liaison with internal colleagues on release, transport & warehousing issues.
- To comfortably complete 75+ entries per week.
Ideal Experience:
- Previous experience working in an import customs role.
- Good understanding of Customs legal requirements and the impact or incorrect information and/or Customs declarations.
- Strong communication skills are vital in this role both written and verbally, as you will be required to compile documentation and be able to interpret the legal requirements on behalf of customers in a clear and simple way.
- Excellent interpersonal skills due to engagement with various agencies on a daily basis.
- Complex problem solving and the ability to engage critical thinking skills will be required as well as the ability to actively listen and interpret concisely.
- Although you will work as part of a team, you need to be self-motivating and be able to organise your work effectively and maintain records.
- Ability to operate windows based applications and any other software that is standard within the industry.
- Work in a fast-paced environment ensuring clearance processes are completed in a complaint and timely manner.
