Two Hadham Brewery ales have been recognised as being among the best independent craft beers in the region after winning awards.
The Little Hadham brewer won bronzes in the British cask bitter and session pale ale categories at the Society of Independent Brewers’ East region Independent Beer Awards at Elgood’s Brewery in Wisbech, Cambridgeshire.
The winning brews were Dragonfly and Hadham Gold. The former is a light, straw-coloured pale ale, dry hopped with Styrian Dragon hops to give notes of melon, grapefruit, lemon and rose. Hadham Gold has a gentle citrus character, with notes of lemon and pine.
The independent brewery, established at Church End in 2015, supplies pubs in Hertfordshire, Essex and Cambridgeshire. It also has a shop and tap room which is open on Saturdays.
Head brewer William Compton said: “We are absolutely delighted to have won these awards for our beers. We take great pride in using quality hops and hand-malted barley to brew them and love that we are so well supported by our brilliant local pubs.”
Roy Allkin, SIBA chairman, said: “Judges had a tough job separating the pack as the standard was extremely high once again.
“Lucky beer festival attendees were able to try this and other award-winning beers immediately after the competition, something which is great for brewers too as they get to put their beers into the hands of real beer-lovers.
“The winners from the SIBA competition are officially the best independent craft beers in the East region, something brewers should be extremely proud of.”
The SIBA Independent Beer Awards judges – brewers, industry experts and beer journalists – scrutinise a wide range of beers and styles in separate cask and keg competitions.
