RDN was one of 11 winners at the awards, which were sponsored by Backing Essex Business and Colbea, and received a trophy alongside a hamper of locally-sourced goodies. The prizes were handed out at a series of networking events.

Tom Cannon, of Thaxted-based Cannon Architectural Design, was named Uttlesford Rising Star while H Creative and The Gingerbread Grotto, both from Saffron Walden, completed the Enterprise section by claiming the Online Business and Community Impact gongs respectively.

Walden’s T Reed & Son (Environmental Impact) and The Railway Arms (Energy Saving) were winners in the Go Green category alongside Thaxted’s Gifted (Reduction of Single-use Plastic).

The Showcase awards completed the roll of honour and were bagged by The Genial Sheep from Wimbish (Made in Uttlesford) and Stebbing-based Meadow Oak Distillery (Taste of Uttlesford) alongside Walden pair Dead Time Beers (Retailer of the Year) and Kidz Active (Health and Beauty).

The Enterprise and Showcase awards were presented by Cllr Neil Reeve, portfolio holder for economy and investment, while the Go Green awards were presented by Cllr Louise Pepper, portfolio holder for environment and green issues.

“These awards are a wonderful opportunity to celebrate and recognise local businesses and the value they bring to our communities,” said Cllr Reeve.

“These awards categories were chosen to influence those business behaviours which we are trying to encourage. The low-key award events were also designed to encourage networking between the businesses.

“I was delighted to see so many excellent applications. The innovation and excellence that we have here on our doorstep in Uttlesford has really shone through.”
