An apprentice who was introduced to the construction industry when assisting his dad with a loft extension during lockdown is helping to build new homes in Bishop’s Stortford.
Adam Simms, 20, is working for Bellway as an apprentice trainee assistant site manager at the St James’ Park development.
He joined the company after finishing his A-levels in 2020 and, speaking as part of last month’s National Apprenticeship Week, said he was delighted to have been given the opportunity to forge a career.
“I enjoy the variety of the job, particularly working as part of a group where everyone works to each other’s strengths,” said Simms, who is from Uxbridge.
“It sounds clichéd, but I look forward to coming onto site and solving problems and working out the root cause of issues.
“I’m thankful to my managers who gave me the confidence to succeed in the role and gave me the ability to prove myself. My future goals are to start my NVQ level 6 and become fully qualified.”
