Our client in Bishops Stortford are looking for an Accounts Manager to join their team.

The Accounts Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day accounting and bookkeeping functions of the business, including service charge accounting, VAT, payroll and pension administration, budget setting and forecasting.

The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring compliance with RICS and TPI accounting standards, statutory obligations, and client money regulations.

This role would suit an experienced property management accountant or qualified bookkeeper with strong knowledge of residential and commercial property accounting – but if you have all the other knowledge and experience then property accounting isn’t essential.

 

Key Responsibilities

Client & Property Accounting

  • Management and reconciliation of client bank accounts
  • Processing service charge, reserve fund and ground rent income
  • Supplier payment processing and contractor account management
  • Monitoring arrears and credit control procedures
  • Preparing service charge accounts and supporting schedules
  • Assisting with year-end accounting and audit processes
  • Maintaining accurate accounting records for residential and commercial

properties

  • Ensuring compliance with RICS client accounting principles and TPI standards
  • Supporting Property Managers and Directors with financial reporting and

budgeting

Company Accounting

  • Purchase ledger and sales ledger management
  • Bank reconciliations
  • Cash flow management
  • Preparation of internal management reports
  • Monitoring expenditure and financial controls

VAT & Compliance

  • Preparation and submission of VAT returns
  • Applying correct VAT treatment across residential, mixed-use and commercial

developments

  • Maintaining compliance with HMRC regulations and accounting standards

Payroll & Pension Administration

  • Processing monthly payroll
  • Administration of workplace pensions and auto-enrolment
  • Liaising with pension providers and payroll software providers
  • Ensuring compliance with payroll legislation and pension obligations

Essential Requirements

  • Qualified Bookkeeper (AAT, ICB or equivalent)
  • Minimum 3 years’ bookkeeping/accounting experience
  • Experience within property management accounting
  • Experience preparing service charge accounts
  • Strong working knowledge of VAT
  • Payroll and pension administration experience
  • Excellent reconciliation and reporting skills
  • Strong Microsoft Excel and accounting software skills
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and developments simultaneously

Desirable

  • Experience using property management software
  • Understanding of leasehold accounting and trust accounting
  • Knowledge of RICS and TPI standards
  • Experience within residential block management or commercial property

management
