Leisure airline Jet2.com is to base extra aircraft at Stansted Airport next year as it increases flights.
The expansion means the carrier and Jet2holidays will operate over 225 weekly services to 42 destinations from Manchester Airports Group’s Essex hub next summer – up 10% on this year.
It will increase the size of its fleet at Stansted to 15 aircraft, rising to 16 for the peak summer holiday period.
That, in turn, will increase capacity on key routes, with additional flights to Ibiza and Majorca in the Balearic Islands, the Croatian destinations of Dubrovnik and Split, the Greek islands of Corfu, Crete (Chania), Crete (Heraklion), Kos, Kefalonia and Rhodes, and Dalaman in Turkey.
As well as operating their biggest ever summer programme from Stansted in 2023, Jet2 will launch two new city break destinations from the base: Rome and Athens.
Steve Heapy, chief executive of Jet2.com and Jet2holidays, said: “This expansion is the latest demonstration of our continued commitment to investing in our London Stansted operations.
“Earlier this year we celebrated five years since the launch of flights and holidays from London Stansted, and since day one the reaction from customers and independent travel agents has been incredible.
“We’re all set for our biggest ever summer from London Stansted, and the addition of a 15th based aircraft enables us to take even more customers away on our award-winning package holidays and flights, whilst giving them more choice than ever before.”
