Indian eatery in Stansted a winner at British Restaurant Awards

Stansted Indian eatery Brohmon has been named ‘Best Restaurant Essex 2022’ at the prestigious British Restaurant Awards.

Owner Karim Ullah said they had been “overwhelmed by wonderful messages” since winning the title at a red carpet ceremony at London’s Porchester Hall.

Brohmon on Chapel Hill, which specialises in serving traditional Bengali cuisine, beat 12 other short-listed nominees. It was then up to the public to vote for the best.

Karim attended the ceremony along with such famous culinary names as Aldo Zilli, Jean Christophe Novelli and the Ritz Hotel.

He said: “We’ve had some really lovely and wonderful messages, especially from people who have seen us struggle and who were very, very supportive when lockdowns were in place, ordering our takeaways.

“They saw how sad our restaurant looked without any diners but kept us going. We may have got spectacularly wrong the timing of our opening, but we couldn’t have chosen a better place to start our business because everyone has been so kind to us.
