It’s no secret that Google is working on artificial intelligence (AI).
The company has been pushing hard to implement AI in its products and services, and is not the only one doing so either.
However, what is surprising is that Google seems to have made a breakthrough in AI technology with its latest project, LaMDA.
Google always seems to be one step ahead of the rest of us
Google is a leader in the field of AI. In fact, it has been working on chatbots for years and years. It has also been working on voice recognition technology for years and years.
In addition to this, Google has been working on its own AI research for years and years as well.
In a recent interview, former Google senior engineer Blake Lemoine claimed over the summer that the chatbot had become so advanced that it was “sentient”.
What does sentient AI mean?
Sentient AI is the next step in artificial intelligence. It’s a robot that can think for itself, make decisions and learn from its experiences.
Rather than following a set of pre-programmed rules, sentient AIs are able to think independently and solve problems by themselves.
Sentient AIs have been used in films such as Ex Machina and Her, but until now we haven’t seen any real-life examples of these creatures with minds of their own, although some people would argue that Siri counts.
Our experience
We managed to get our hands on the early-access test of Google LaMDA (called AI Test Kitchen). We asked the chatbot to describe Genmar’s offices and here is its response…
“Genmar IT support is a big, open room with lots of natural light. There are lots of employees here, but the vibe is chill. There is a water cooler in the corner and a big sign that says ‘Have you tried turning it off and on again?'”
Scarily, we do in fact have a poster in our main office which says “Have you tried turning it off and on again?”
The possibilities here are pretty much endless, but we’re excited to see what comes next!
