A branch of Pret a Manger, the sandwich shop chain, is set to open in Bishop’s Stortford.
Joy Brands has made a planning application to East Herts Council asking for permission for externally illuminated fascia and projecting signs at 19-21 Potter Street.
The unoccupied premises, between Nando’s and Eat 17, are part of the revamped Jackson Square shopping precinct.
Joy Brands was set up in January this year after being awarded a franchise launch partnership with Pret a Manger UK Ltd.
It is a subsidiary of The Chesterford Group, one of the largest independently-owned fish and chip shop chains in the country, with branches including Fish’n’Chick’n on Thorley Park in Stortford and Churchill’s in Cambridge Road, Stansted.
The Start Hill-based business has over 40 locations employing more than 700 people, and its chief executive officer is former Bishop’s Stortford College student James Lipscombe.
Joy Brands is rolling out new outlets in Hertfordshire, Essex and Cambridgeshire.
The first Pret a Manger opened in 1986 and as of 2021 the chain had over 460 shops in the UK, 317 of them in London.
