An independent firm of rural property surveyors and land agents has been instructed to sell a parcel of green belt land with planning permission for a vertical farm.
Weldon Beesly, which has an office in South Street, Bishop’s Stortford, is offering the Welwyn Garden City property, which extends to 4.05 acres, for sale with a guide price of £550,000.
Vertical farming is the practice of growing crops in vertically stacked layers, often incorporating controlled environment agriculture, which seeks to maximise plant growth, reduce plant disease and improve flexibility of cropping.
The site, on Danesbury Park Road, offers the opportunity to create a new small-scale vertical farm with two growing sheds, cold store with workshop and the opportunity to sell direct to customers through a farm shop.
The planning permission also provides for solar panels and rainwater harvesting to further control growing costs and enhance the project’s sustainability.
“This is a really exciting opportunity to create a new and sustainable business,” said Weldon Beesly partner Hugo Richardson.
“There has been considerable interest in vertical farming and we are delighted to be acting in the sale of this unique opportunity.”
