Bishop’s Stortford BID (Business Improvement District) manager Gina Thomas writes in the Indie…
The BID held its AGM on Monday November 21. This was a chance to review the year 2021-22 and all that we have achieved, as well as to transact the formal items on the agenda.
It’s always good to look back and see how far we have come – at the start of the 2021-22 financial year we were still in lockdown!
It seems a distant memory now, but, together, we have continued to keep our high street alive with events, marketing and business support.
Part of the AGM involves the appointment of BID directors and board members. These people all volunteer their time to help manage and guide the BID. They all come from BID businesses and are a huge part of the BID’s success.
The three directors for 2021-22 were Karen Burton, of Karen’s Cakes, Glenn Armon-Jones, of Barrow LLP, and Sam Cook, of Nockolds, and we owe them a huge thank you for their time.
Sam has now stepped down from the board and as a director, and at the AGM we were delighted to appoint Gary Smith, also of Nockolds, to replace him. Welcome, Gary, to the team and thank you to Nockolds.
The board members attend monthly meetings and provide great knowledge and insight to the current issues facing businesses which enables us to help shape the initiatives we work on and deliver. Our thanks also to outgoing members Sharon Tegg, of Halo Beauty, and Phil Wakefield from Waitrose.
The Board members for the next year are: Cllr Dave Anderson (Bishop’s Stortford Town Council); Judith Bates (Premier Travel); Graham Burgess (Coopers); Nicola Chambers (Pardon Chambers Architects); Perry Colman (Urban Spa and Hair by Elements); Sinead Corr (Bishop’s Stortford Independent); Kathryn Hughes (Fashion Flooring & Interiors); Michael Smith (Jackson Square); Cllr David Snowdon (East Herts Council) and Richard Taylor (Simpsons Creative).
We welcome any advice and suggestions. And if you are a BID business and are interested in getting involved, please do get in touch.
On Thursday November 24 we had the great joy of attending the Indies community awards, which is always a very special night highlighting some of the outstanding people in our town. From incredible sporting achievements to heart-warming personal stories of courage, we have it all right here in Bishop’s Stortford.
The BID sponsored the Customer Service Award and the very worthy winners for 2022 were Unique Hairdressing & Male Barbering. The Bridge Street business was nominated by one of its customers, Janet, for the care they continually give her mother who suffers with dementia.
A fine example of going above and beyond and just how wonderful Bishop’s Stortford businesses are. Our congratulations to the team.
There’s lots going on in the build-up to Christmas, so be sure to check out discoverstortford.co.uk/events for all the latest news.
