A new venue for East Herts Council’s co-working space and business centre in Bishop’s Stortford is set to open by April next year.
Launchpad needs to move from its current base – the ground floor of Charringtons House – to make way for redevelopment of the Causeway site.
At a meeting of the district council, Bishop’s Stortford’s Cllr David Snowdon quizzed Cllr Jan Goodeve, the executive member for planning and growth, about its future.
Cllr Goodeve said: “We are aware that Launchpad is a popular and well-used facility in the town and many businesses there are getting nervous about its future within the Old River Lane development.
“We are actively seeking a new venue and have identified two possible options, one of which is quite advanced in terms of negotiations. We hope to have resolved the issue before Christmas and be in a new venue from April 1, 2023.”
She said Chris Smith, the council’s economic development manager, was “liaising closely” with business users in the Launchpad.
She said: “I know several of them have committed to staying with us if and when we do move.”
The Causeway is set to become a cultural quarter called Old River Lane with a new arts centre built on the car park used by Launchpad. The development, in partnership with Cityheart, will also include 125 homes, shops, restaurants and offices.
