Rugby club joins this year’s Jingle Bell Sleigh tour in Stortford

Santa and his elves will once again board the Barringtons Jingle Bell Sleigh for a tour of the town by horse-drawn carriage in the run-up to Christmas – but this year it will culminate in a festive extravaganza at Bishop’s Stortford rugby club.

The tour on Friday December 16 will begin at 5pm. The carriage, pulled by two black horses, will arrive at the Silver Leys club at around 7pm. Along the way, the team will be collecting donations for Isabel Hospice.

At the rugby club, families can enjoy food and drink, music and carols, and Santa will take up position in his grotto to meet children eager to impart their present wishes.

Barringtons, the female-led, privately-owned funeral director in Hockerill Street, organises the annual Jingle Bell Sleigh ride. Its owners, Nikki Field and Lisa Aldridge Weeks, will be joining the team to greet well-wishers along the route.

They said they were delighted to be working with the rugby club to provide an evening of festive entertainment.

“Ahead of our arrival, the club will host the whole community (entry is free), serving and selling festive food and drink, with music and Christmas carols. There will also be a Santa’s grotto where families can take photos of their children (again, there is no charge).

“Renee Friend, of Isabel Hospice, and her team of volunteers will join our ‘Barringtons Helpers’ on the night to help collect donations for the hospice, and once again the mayor of Bishop’s Stortford will be attending along the route.

“We are looking into a slightly different route this year and this is being finalised in the next few weeks.”
